Don’t Cry, by Evan Veasey
Every piece of music I work on means something special to me, but at this point in my life this one is definitely the one I am the most proud of. Don’t Cry represents a lot of firsts for me as a musician and artist, first album under my own name, first record of only my original music, first album as a lead singer all the way through, first time organizing and leading a recording session, the list goes on and on. On this record I played a bunch of Acoustic and Electric Guitar, Rhodes, Organ, Mandolin, and even Toy Drums! Wrote all the songs, had a hand in all the arrangements, and wrote for string quartet for the first time. I was lucky enough to have the help of a lot of friends along the way. Lots of musicians worked for “friend prices” and gave 110% to help me turn a lofty idea and a few songs into a complete album. I especially need to thank my dear friend and longtime musical collaborator Whit Fineberg. He Produced, Engineered, and Mixed this record, answered countless questions I had throughout the process and even let us record live in his living room! This record really stretched the limits of what I can do and was really scary to make. In all honesty, it can be really hard sharing yourself without a band to hide behind. While the work was really hard the rewards have been huge, not only with my relation to myself, but in the amazing friends and people I’ve connected with through this piece of music. Up to this point, this album probably best represents my values as a guitar player, songwriter, and artist.
