Celestial Hum

In the summer of 2024 I got a gig playing guitar in Of the Stars for a local summer music fest called Bell Shred. It was with a band of musicians I hadn’t played with before and it was a new and exciting opportunity. At rehearsals, we talked about featuring some of the band member’s writing since several of the players were also solo artists. I had written Celestial Hum about a year before and didn’t have any other songs to offer up, so I decided to share it with the group. In this collaboration the song really came to life in a new and exciting way for me. Through this gig I met Luke Mitchell, owner of Out There Studios in Marshall, and got encouragement from the rest of the band to record the song with him, so that fall we did! This was my first recording of my own music in WNC and felt in a lot of ways like a meeting of many of the connections and friendships I have made here. Frequent collaborator Jaze Uries played drums and several of the people from that show the summer before contributed vocals. It was a really fun day of making music. Then two weeks later, everything changed when hurricane Helene hit. When I listen to this song it feels like it captures a really special moment, a moment of lightness and fun right before things got real heavy. It reminds me of why I chose to move here and why I continue to call this place home.
