Bass Guitar
To me, learning bass is all about understanding Functional Harmony, Voice Leading, Rhythmic Feel, and Counterpoint. I think these skills are important for any musician. In a Bass lesson with me, students can expect to work on developing these skills through the lens of the basslines from their favorite songs. Whether it's Motown, Modern Pop, or even Metallica, I always enjoy working through and finding the nuances of the music my students want to learn. I teach a variety of styles including Soul, Blues, Rock, Pop, Folk, Country, and Metal just to name a few. I am currently offering lessons to beginner and intermediate students.
Evan’s experience playing bass:
I started playing bass in 2015, taking a few informal lessons with friend and killer Detroit Bassist Caelin Amin before studying on my own. I have spent most of my practice time on bass unpacking the timeless playing of bass players like Carol Kaye, Paul Mccartney, and James Jamerson. As a songwriter I have used bass extensively on demo’s of my own songs. In addition I have played a few shows (including Stoopfest 2018) with Southeast Michigan indie rock band Parkway and Columbia subbing for their bass player. In 2023 I played bass for Asheville based indie-pop-punk band Little Champion both live and in the studio on his songs “Overpass”, and “If the Earth Was Flat” (my first time playing bass on record!).
