House Show December 2024
In the immediate aftermath of hurricane Helene, it felt like time stopped. There was so much devastation and so much suffering, everything else took a backseat. Working on music projects really helps me manage my mental health and keeps me going, so in that uncertain first month, in addition to navigating a completely new landscape and trying as much as I could to volunteer my time and energy in my community, I started planning another house show. This time, to coincide with my trip home to Michigan for the holidays. Promoting the show, making the poster, and messaging old friends and students about it, distracted me when I needed something else to think about. This show felt like a family reunion. I got to see many current and former students, not to mention all the members of my old band, Fallow Land. Anne Erlewine and Yaw Control joined me that night and shared some great tunes too. This show was a bright spot for me in an uncertain and weird time. I am grateful that music is around to help in these kinds of moments!
